Humidity: 62%
Pressure: 29.98
Winds: SSE 12 mph ( http://hint.fm/wind/index.html )
Skies: Clear

Today hit a high of 71 degrees!  That is right around near perfect in my book!  The skies remained clear all day due to the high pressure system in the area.  Fortunately for us, it looks like Eau Claire, including much of the midwest will remain in the high pressure system for much of the weekend!  Expect temperatures to remain in the 70's with a few clouds passing through later in the day tomorrow.

this video seems strange, but I promise it is worth a watch! -very creative, and surprisingly good!

Although the clouds look pretty ominous, don't expect much precipitation today!  Earlier this mornig we had strong wings coming from the S/SE.  In the Northern skies we had a mackeral sky pattern.  By 12 pm the skies were expolding with cumulus mediocris clouds.  Fortunately, the winds shifted this afternoon, so the west winds will make it harder for precipitation to occur!  Look for showers later tonight around 8pm and temperatures to remain in the low 50's.

Currently Eau Claire is under a high pressure system!! Finally- from the rain that we have experienced this weekend, we need it!  We woke up this morning to dewy grass and damp windshields! Luckily there were very few cirrus clouds left in the sky, so the sun was able to dry everything up! As you can see in the bottom map, water vapor is present over the areas of the country which are also within a low pressure system.

Look out for the occluded front that is located just west of us!  This front could produce some more precipitation tonight so be ready for that!  It'll be a nice way to wake up for the wonderful Monday mornings that everyone seems to dread- damp ground!  As for today, most of the precipitation that we should expect has already occured this morning.  Expect the skies to clear up a little around 4pm or 5 pm as we see a break from the low pressure systems to our east and west.

Today I my friend and I woke up early to drive to the cities to hear a speaker.  Waking up was rather difficult because it was quite chilly and it seemed to be drizzling outside!  Currently, we are under a low pressure system that reaches out into the Dakotas and up into Canada.  The temperatures are related with the jet stream that is currently bringing in the continental polar airmass from our friendly neighbors to the north. The current storms are associated with the convective lifting happening that has caused the stationary front that is over the area.  Expect precipitation to continue throughout the night and into early morning.

and now for your corny weather related song for the day...

Today Started off quite sunny...

but by mid afternoon, cirrus clouds started coming in from the west followed by cirrostratus clouds..

and about 7 hours later stratus clouds completely filled the area and it began to rain (therefore the clouds would be considered nimbostratus due to the fact that they are producing precipitation.)

Today was a great example of a warm front sequence

Current Conditions:

Currently Eau Claire is under a low pressure system.  Winds are gusting at around 14 miles per hour.  It is lightly raining on and off and will continue that way throughout most of the night.  Expect temperatures tomorrow to be humid throughout most of the day as the low pressure system moves through bringing a warm front along with it.

Currently Eau Claire is under a high pressure system!  The high for today was around 62 degrees.  Currently there are cumulus clouds in the northern sky and cirrus clouds in the southern skies!  The low tonight is going to be 42 degrees, but don't let it fool you.  Tomorrow's highs are expected to be around 80 degrees.  Thunderstorms are very likely due to the low pressure system coming in from the northwest.

Watch the weather carefully today because we are expected to get some rain - or in other terms, a midlatitude cyclone!  The warm front associated with the air coming off of the golf of Mexico should overtake the cold front and move north, while the cold front of the rockies will move across the great plains.  Expect precipitation to occur in about 6 hours.  Watch for the cloud patterns today too as the front moves closer!

Tempertures today will remain in the upper forties to lower fifties due to the high pressure system located to our north.  The low temperatures are associated with the continental polar air mass bringing the cold northern air down from canada.  The winds are incredibly strong today!  Look for a midlatitude cyclone to occur if the trough dips down low enough sometime later this evening!

Earlier this morning, Eau Claire was experiencing a mid latitude cyclone with precipitation acquiring to about half an inch.  Around 12pm the nimbostratus clouds started clearing up and stratus clouds, followed by cirrus moved in towards the afternoon.  Late evening, the skies were clear, indicating that Eau Claire is under a high pressure system.  Expect tomorrow's temperatures to be cooler than today's due to the polar continental air mass making its way through the area.  Eau Claire should remain in a high pressure system through tomorrow afternoon.

There is not a lot of stuf going on in the midwest as you can see from this water vapor image from unisys.  From this map you can tell that there is a concentration of water in the upper northwest as well as New England.  As for Eau Claire, warm temperatures will remain in the area for another 15 or so hours, but expect to see the precipiation from the west roll on into the area tomorrow morning!

Earlier this morning Eau Claire saw 100% clear skies, although there was a slight haze around the sun (indicating a front was going to move through.)  Around 11:00 cirrus clouds rolled in, followed by total cloud coverage (stratus) around 2pm.  Temperatures have significantly cooled down due to the jet stream bringing in the polar continental from Canada.  There is a storm system to the west of Eau Claire, so expect scattered showers this evening.

Today started off with a few cirrus clouds in the sky, but by late afternoon early evening, the skies had cleared up!  This morning was chilly (aprx. 36 degrees around sunrise) but it has warmed up significantly to about 55 degrees!  Currently Eau Claire is under a high pressure system which is the explanation for such clear skies! The rain that we experienced yesterday has completely passed us and is making its mark on the Eastern states at this very moment.  Looking ahead for tomorrow, expect to see some clouds start to develop throughout the day and slight precipitation to occur in the evening.  This is predicted by the start of the warm front coming through indicated by the wind direction and slight cloud coverage.

This morning we woke up to rain showers!  The precipitation was mostly associated with a mid latitude cyclone, which passed through Eau Claire last night and brought over a half inch of rain.  The early afternoon skies cleared up a bit., except for the cumulus clouds that were present in the northern sky.  Today's high was around 68 degrees!  Expect temperatures to drop into the mid thirties tonight.  Tomorrow we should be seeing some more precipitation as the low pressure system continues to move through from the west.

Quite the change in temperature that we've had over the past couple of days!  This morning people thought it was snowing but in actuality it was graupel that was falling.  Temperatures are rather cold due to the continental polar air mass.  Into the night, the high pressure system to the northwest of us will move in and alleviate some of the intense weather conditions we have been seeing.  Tomorrow expect it to be partly cloudy with precipitation in the morning, clearing out throughout the day.

Today was a pretty frigid day for it being the middle of April.  This morning temperatures barely rose above 32 degrees.  The high for today was 41 degrees.  We have another freeze warning in affect until Wednesday around 11 a.m.  Currently there is scattered skies with cirrus clouds in the north.

Current Conditions:
Temp: 41 F
Dew pt: 15 F
Hum: 34%
Winds: N at 10 knt
Wind chill: 34 F

Because the wind is coming out of the north, I do not expect to see any precipitation occurring within the next couple of days.  Tomorrow should be another cold one because of the trough dipping down into the central United States bringing in the continental polar air mass.

The sky is 100% covered with stratus clouds.  The westerly winds should mean that Eau Claire will see little to no percipitation.  Temperatures are quite chilly today due to the jet stream bringing in the contintental polar air mass from Canada.  Expect temeratures to reamain pretty low throughout most of the week, warming up slightly as we get into the weekend.

The Clear skies last night allowed for the long wave radiation to escape into the upper atmosphere which was a reason why temperatures dropped so low (31F.)  As for today, the weather is rather deceiving.  It appears to be quite warm outside because of the clear skies and sunshine, but in actuality, the air is rather chilly.  52 degrees currently with the high reaching to only 57 degrees.  The Jet Stream is pulling in the air mass from the polar continental.

...rain :)

I was suddenly awakened by the sound of raindrops hitting the ground outside my second-story window when I quickly realized, I hadn't even blogged yet!

Current Conditions:

Temperature: 44 F
Humidity: 57%
Pressure: 29.91
Winds: 12mph SE
Skies: nimbo stratus

The map above indicated that northeast Wisconsin is being affected by the low pressure system coming from the southeast.  Warm air is sliding over the cold air creating precipitation.  The mackeral skies this morning (cirrocumulus clouds containing ice crystals) also were a great sign that precipitation was in the future!  Currently, the jetstream is bringing in the polar continental airmass which can be associated with the lower temperatures that occurred throughout most of today and this evening.

The first thing I noticed when logging on this evening to accuweather.com was that there was freeze warning alert for Eau Claire.  So long 80 degree weather that we experienced over spring break!!  It is back to the normal Wisconsin spring weather.

Today's high was 50 degrees and the wind was coming out of the north east for the most part of the day.  The skies were partly cloudy filled mostly with cumulus clouds.  Current conditions are:

Temperature: 40 f
Dew Point: 32

Humidity: 73%

SPRING BREAK 2012

What a beautiful day in Eau Claire!  Settin records today! The high was 79 degrees... 6 degrees higher than the record that was set back in 1930!  Current Conditions:

Temperature: 78 degrees
Winds: SSE at 16-22 mph
Humidity: 46%
Pressure: 29.87

The sky is partly cloudy with cumulus humilis clouds.  Some seem to be forming into cumulus mediocras towards the eastern sky.  Because the winds are out of the east, there is little to no percipitation likely.  The system will pass over Eau Claire, expect the high tomorrow to be 80 degrees!!

Record high of 75!!

What a wonderful Wednesday it was for Eau Claire!  We hit a record high of 75 degrees today!  The skies were clear for most of the day until around 5pm when some cirrostratus clouds were present towards the west. Expect temperatures to drop into the mid forties for the night. The current conditions are:

Temperature: 59
Winds: 3mph E
Humidity: 75%
Skies: party cloudy
Pressure: 29.86

Today was another beautiful spring day!!  Look for the flowers to start budding in the next couple of weeks!  This morning the skies were partly cloudy with mainly cirrus clouds which ended up clearing out throughout most part of the afternoon.  We had west winds throughout the days bringing the temperature into the low seventies! Expect an even warmer day tomorrow as the high pressure system moves through the area.

Happy Daylight Savings!

The weather is making it quite difficult to adjust!  Currently it is 9:15 a.m. and it is still dark outside.  We have a 100% cloud cover with low lying nimbo stratus clouds.  It has been raining for most of the morning, at least since 6:30 a.m.  The radar is shoing signs that showers will be ongoing throughout the day as multiple low pressure systems move through the area. Current conditions:

Temperature: 49 F
Dew Point: 48 F
Humidity: 96%
Pressure: 29.66
Wind: S/SW at 12 mph

The high today is going to reach 59 degrees (20 degrees above average for this time of year.)  Expect the lows tonight to drop down to 34.   Showers will be continuous throughout most part of the day until around 6 pm this evening.  Tomorrow expect to see partly cloudy skies.  This rain reminds me of those warm summer rains... no need for a coat this a.m.!

Sunday, March 11, 2012

3/11/12

The high for today reached 64 degrees with S/SW winds at about 5-10 mph.  The sky was partly cloudy with cirrocumulous clouds.  Currently the wind is coming from the S/SE and there is a mackeral sky pattern....
"Mares tails and mackeral scales make tall ships take in their sails"

mackeral skies usually mean that there is an approaching warm front which will make the wind change and precipitation will be likely!   Be ready tomorrow morning with your umbreallas because it looks like we are going to be getting some pretty hefty showers!

3/4/12

Happy Sunday!  Today we woke up to an accumulation of about an inch of snow on the ground!  This weekend temperatures were a little colder than they had been lately due to a cold front that passed through (associated with the continental polar air mass.)  This morning the sky was mostly cloudy but throughout the afternoon the sky cleared up slighty. There is a 30% chance of snow showers tonight and lows are expected to drop to around 13 degrees.  Looking into the week, it looks like we will be seeing mild weather. Tomorrow is suppose to have a high of 36 degrees and a low of 28 although it will feel a lot colder because we will have winds up to 19 mph coming from the South.

HAPPY LEAP YEAR EVERYBODY!!!

We were gifted by waking up with a bunch of snow! A winter weather advisory remains in effect until this evening at 6p.m.  Currently the measurements of snow in Eau Claire are upwards of 5.5 inches!  Remember that yesterday's conditions left about 1-2 inches of sleet/rain which has accumulated beneath the snow and has most likely frozen to ice.  Drivers this morning should be careful because the roads are slick, look out for hydroplaning!

Temp: 33
Pressure: 29.28
Winds: East at 23 mph
Cloud Coverage: 100%
This map shows the low pressure passing over the upper midwest
Eau Claire is right on the belt line of this storm-
expect mixed precipitation
Today expect to have very wintery conditions.   The storm is still passing over us and so as it warms up in the day, snow is going to turn to rain and as it starts to cool later this afternoon the rain will turn to ice and then to snow.  Expect temperatures to reach up to 38 degrees today.  We should remain under cloud cover for most of the day as the low passes over us.  Precipitation will continue throughout the day, expect around 1 inch of rain and another inch or two of snow.  Look for the winds to switch from the east to the southwest as the low pressure system moves out of the area.

winter storm!

Winter Storm Warning!

Have no fear! the Eau Claire weather blogs are here!

Waking up this morning, you may not have noticed anything particularily out of the ordinary.  The skies were covered in clouds and it looked like the typical grey winter weather scene you would expect.  But- if you were to take a look at the weather forecasts and pay close attention to the wind directions, you could tell that there was something brewing in the atmosphere and heading straight towards the upper midwest!

this post will be revamped tomorrow... but these are some vague notes:

this morning: cloudy
snow started falling at around 1:30
heavy snowfall around 3:00
turned into mix of rain/sleet at 5:00
turned back into snow around 7:45

2/27/12

Currently it feels like it is 27 degrees outside.  This morning was cloudy with significant winds coming from the west at around 20 mph.  Currently the winds seemed to have shifted slightly and are coming from the west northwest.  The national weather service has issued a winter storm warning for Eau Claire until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.  It looks like we will be in a high pressure system until tomorrow when the low pressure system in the west will reach the midwest.

Sunday, February 26, 2012

2/26/12

Today started out with clear skies and a strong wind coming from west southwest at 22 mph!  Later in the afternoon stratus clouds moved in and the wind continued to have gusts around 20 mph.  The weather is associated with the low front passing through, and Wisconisn and Minnesota happy to be in the center of that low. Currently it is 32 degrees.  Tonight expect temperatures to drop into the high teens with a possibility of some snow flurries throughout the night.

2/25/12

Today was a pretty chilly day!  Temperatures were around average for this time of year, but it was a surprise to have the weather resemble an actual winter day! The skies were clear throughout the day and the winds were quite calm.  Currently we are under a high pressure system, but expect to see some clouds move in late tonight as the low from the west moves our way, bringing a chance for precipitation.

Today in Eau Claire it was a fairly windy day.  We didn't see any precipitation, although there was cumulous nimbus cloud coverage most of the day.

Currently it is 32 degrees outside.  Expect temperatures to drop through the night to the low twenties.  The winds are out of the north at around 7mph.

Although we saw mild conditions, the rest of the midwest, including the southern portion of Wisconsin was hit by percipitation within the low pressure system.  The map below shows the amount of percipitation each area of the United States saw tonight.  Some areas, specifically eastern Iowa and   western Illinois.

Today we woke up with bountiful sunshine overhead!  The current conditions are as follows:
Temp: 34
Winds: 10 mph from west
High: 36
Dewpoint: 22
Humidity: 64%

Currently we are under a high pressure system which is the reason for the clear skies!  Expect some clouds to move in later this afternoon as the high pressure system moves out.  The winds are coming in from the west and therefore tomorrow we should be seeing cloudy skies because a low pressure system will makes its way in bringing the likelihood of some slight snow showers in the afternoon.
